Step 5: structure

STEP 5: Structuring

Which type of structured sectioning do I want to use?
We are using an episodic structure as we have 6 sections. Each section will have a different structure. Another structure we will be using is narrative.
What is the definition of this type of structure?
The definition of an episodic structure is, many different sections within a piece. The definition if a narrative structure is that which tells a story.
Why do I want to use this?
We want to explore the relationships of the main characters and also show how their actions effect King Lear.
How does it relate to the question?
Section 1: King Lear's younger years- this is to show King Lear in his younger years when he would fall around, before he met the queen.
Section 2: the three daughters-
What are the differences going to be between my sections? Do they represent different things- what are they?

If so, how are my motifs/ movement phrases going to be developed to correspond with this development in the structure?

STEP 1: Making Decisions

Developing Ideas from a starting point…

Which stimulus have you chosen?
Our stimulus is King Lear by William Shakespeare.
What type of stimulus is your starting point...?
Our stimulus is a play, a textual stimulus.

Visual- Image   Auditory- Accompaniment

Textual- Poem/ Prose   Ideational- An Idea/ Concept

Analysis…

What are the key words/ ideas in your question
Themes within the play; appearance, disguise, the elements, nature, family relationships, madness, power, blindness, love and loyalty
Brainstorm around these key words/ideas

Ukraine and Russia
Egypt
Syria
Dictatorship
Gadaffi
Controversial America

Abstraction… “How can we relate the ideas to dance movement?”

From your first impressions of your stimulus, jot down a few bullets points about the type of movement you think this stimulus could inspire

Pointe work,
War dance

Make some creative choreographic decisions…

What do you want to communicate to the audience?
What is the intended impact on the audience?
Which style(s) of dance or movement may be suitable for you to use to achieve this?
