Evaluation

Throughout the process of creating our shakespeare re- imagined piece, we had a lot of challenges which we needed to overcome as well as many achievements. One of the biggest problems we faced was absence and illness. This meant that we were not able to work as quickly was we would have liked. Also, it meant the choreography wasn't as developed as it could have been because people weren't there, to allow us to choreograph and develop it. Another problem we faced when people were at lessons, was motivation to get up and actually choreograph. A lot of the time, we ended up sitting around talking, rather than up and dancing.  As a group there was a tendency to go with, that will do rather than, how can we make it better. However, some members tried to complete the work. Although we had more challenges than achievements, we managed to resolve all problems creatively. One aspect of the piece that was very successful was the use of the performance space and architecture. We used stairs and lift in order to create interesting parts for the audience. I feel as a group we had our ups and downs, but in the long run, created a piece that explored a less obvious side of King Lear, exploring the relationships within the family and why the king went.

Step 10 - Evaluation

Thought out the process of creating we had a lot of struggles, especially towards the end, we didn't create enough choreography to fill the 20 minutes. We did face this challenge but not soon enough, we didn't really have time to polish the piece. The problems with my section was that needed to create more contact to get the feelings of king Lear and his two eldest daughters across to the audience. I thought that it did get across to the audience but not clear enough, also i needed to add more dynamics to how the king and the daughter have different feelings towards each other. Over all the piece came together at the end but still had room for improvement especially with the links between sections.

Step 9

I was pleased with the rehearsals as we all took time on our own prices and planned well to what we were going to create, after watching my section back i am pleased with my the way that the dancers get across the idea, i need to improve the dynamics and add a bit more choreography as it is very short. I can use to help me more motifs.

Two technical skills i need to work on is my posture and strength to make this better i can practice exercised i have learn from lessons everyday, i need strength as im being lifted and pushed around.

Two interpretive skills i need is facial expression and focus, i seems to sometimes slip into the silly place and just laugh but i need to focus so i can concentrate on my characters feelings and get them across to the audience.

Step 7 and 8

I started with thinking of motifs to show that this is the relationship between king Lear and the two eldest daughters, in this section i wanted to show that as much as they tried to hold on he just pushed them away, by doing this i came up with a motif with king Lear reaching towards the girls. The dynamics within this section was smooth and fluid as king Lear was still trying to hold on to his daughters but knew he had to let them go as he was going mad.

My second motif was king Lear pushing two daughters away, they tired to hold on but he just let them go, to show this i had the daughters cuddled up to king Lear and him pushing them away, we called this exploding. The dynamics in this section was sharp and rigid as king Lear was starting to go mad. By having these dynamics it shows he couldn't control what was happening madness took over.

Step 9 planning rehearsals

What were you pleased with ?

During rehearsals I pleased with how the rest of dancers picked up the chorgraph I really quickly and dance my section well when on rehearsal.  They adapted well when I changed parts of my section and picked up well when I added the dymics to make the section even better :) 

What needs to be improved ? 

The only thing  that needed to be improved was making sure everyone e knew there ques of when to come in and then when to leave.  Also next time my section needs to be made longer as it was only a short and quick section compared to the rest of the piece. Also more dymanoics could of been use such retrograde with my section to make even better .

What can you use to help ? 

To help me improve for next time when chorgrpahing have a list  of dymanoics written out to make sure I put them I to my chorgrpahing. 

How did it help you to improve ?

Writing a list of dynamics help me  because it reminded me to add them into my section.

Why do we need Techinal skills ?

Techinal skills are there to help us grow as dancers the better your Techinal skills are the better the dance you can become .

Describe to Techinal skills that you need to improve in during rehearsal ?

Two technical skills that I need to improve on are turn alignment and posture. To improve I am doing to carry out excerise learnt during dance taught by Charlotte and rose , once a day to help improve my posture and alignment.

Interpretive skills:

What are interpretive skills ? 

Interpretive skills are used more in performing than in rehearsal some examples of interpretive skills are the following :

Focus 

Faceal expression. 

Musicalatly 

Timeing 

Use of space 

Why do we need them ?? 

We need interpretive skills to be able to make our performing much better because it techies us to use the space better have good timing and to have good focus.

Two interpretive skills I need to improve on is focus and facial expression when in rehearsals a lot of the time I lose Fouas and can come easily distracted. When in rehearsal I need to make sure I am go consontrateing and make I pay attention to what is being said at all times .

Also I need work on my facial expression when dancing this will help get across the meaning of the dance price to the audience during rehearsal I need to do this other wise it when it come to the performance it will look like to the audience I am consontrateing the hole time and won't tell the audience what is happening.

Step 6 rehearsals

3/03/14

Today Is our first rehearsal. We got together today and planned what our piece was going to be about. We knew it was going be link with the well known story of king Lear by William Shakespeare but we decided today aspect of the story we were going to use to base our final performance piece on. We also then decided who was going to chorgraph was section. 

Our target for next rehearsal was for everyone to come with a motif to teach each other for there section within the piece.  This was just to help to start gettin creative and working in a group with each other.

10/03/14

Today our aim was to teach other the motif that we had all prepared.  

Step 7 and 8 developing and experimenting and adding dynamics

Once we had created out section within dance studio. They all consist on working around a motif of 3 differnt movement symbolising what our section was about. We then moved out into the space that we performing each section in. We develop the motif and added travel and and dymics to the motif to allow us to travel around the space more and to make our sections looked more interesting to watch.  

In my section I used my first freeze gram to be the queen lying dead with her family surrounding her looking shocked. I then had king to travel in and then tells his daughters to leave. They then do the motif of hand movement but they do this in cannon to add a better effect to the piece. 

My second freeze frame is the two daughters arguing which is. A stage fight sequence to show that they are blaming the youngest daughter for the queens death. This shows a good use of changing the facing and pathway which is also known as staging.  I also use tempo change within the part of my section as well.  

My third freeze fame is the third daughter looking over and observing as not every needs to be moving in the space at all time. You freezes and slience can add a more dramatic effect. 

There is a good use for level change with this section as there is some floor work and some kneeing level and some at standing level.  And there was also I good use of stillness with section 

Step 5 structure (Charlotte Hadfield )

Which type of structure do you want to use in your piece ?

The type of structure I would like to use for my section is narrative. I would like to use this structure because narrative is a good structure to use when telling a story through and range of movement of dance. You can also see a difference in the type movement being used from when the queen dies to when the older sisters fight towards the end.
